Vegan’s…… How do you Get your PROTEIN!?

vegan-proteinHey guys! So sorry i have been MIA this past week….the flu is no joke and had me out of sorts for about a week. I am really excited about this post because I feel that it really can speak to a lot of people who are thinking of trying the vegan diet but are hesitant because they believe they will not get a sufficient amount of protein. I will tell you that most people are not educated enough on what their body actually NEEDS. America is wired to think and do in certain “ways” as far as food, clothes, cars, beauty products, etc. Most of these “ways” are to keep the cycle of cash flowing. Big businesses love to get false information out there so that you keep buying their products. This is a vicious cycle and is at the expense of YOUR health.

The number one question I have received since becoming vegan is, “How do you get your protein?” The recommended average intake of protein is 42 grams a day.Non-vegetarians eat way more than that (almost 80 grams). Vegetarians/ vegans actually average 70% more protein than they need everyday (almost 70 grams). Over 97% of Americans get enough protein and 97% of Americans are DEFICIENT in one key nutrient….FIBER! (forksoverknives.com). Fiber is mostly found in plant-based foods. Surprise surprise….Americans aren’t eating enough veggies or whole grains. Is protein important? Absolutely, but how much does your body really need to function and with what sources are you getting your protein from? Because we put so much emphasis on protein, especially animal based protein, we are now neglecting a huge nutrient that our body needs to be able to function. Please watch the video below for more in depth information on this subject! All of this material is backed by science and the literature was put together by Doctors in the nutrition field.
