Flourishing in 2017 & Where to Start!?

Hey everyone hope your year is starting off fabulously! Its been about a week since I’ve blogged and this week I am talking about what we can do mentally to make ourselves happier and healthier (to flourish) this new year!  The first place to start on the road to a healthier you is YOU! Its your mentality! I know there are some of you out there that feel like you are in a rut with your health! The crazy thing is is that most of you have put yourselves there! Thats crazy right? Mentality is key when it comes to changing your health and your mind. When I first started getting into fitness I thought that it was all about eating healthy food and working out. While a healthy lifestyle is about your nutrition and how active you are, it is also about your mental health. I have learned in 2016 that how you handle things mentally is really the key to success in every area of your life! Bad things happen and good things happen but it is all how you perceive and learn from every situation. Even with all the bad there comes good (which we can thank Jesus for). In fitness we have to be mentally invested or what will happen? You will say,” you’re going to start Monday” Or “I am starting tomorrow” over and over and over again. I used to do it too! So how can we overcome our worst enemy….ourselves!? A huge one for me is meditation. With two young children, a new business and school I get overwhelmed a lot. My health could be an easy thing to put on the back burner so I have more time, but I prioritize me and my health. Because without my health I wouldn’t be able to run around all day taking care of my kids, the house, their actitvities, our new gym, and school! God intended us to be able to physically go through our day with lots of activity. But because of the modern work place and the sedentary world that we live in, this has ruined human beings and what they are intended to be. I meditate at least once a day (or I at least I try). I wake up before the kids or I do it once they have gone to bed. Its time for me to breath, relax and focus in prayer. It makes a huge difference on how I conquer my day or end it.

I also talk to myself. Yes, I know that is weird but It helps I promise. When I smell pizza or want that big piece of cake at a child’s birthday party I have to talk myself out of it. Most people will encourage you to eat unhealthy foods because that is just the world that we live in. In social settings we are more likely to eat unhealthy then when we are alone. I say to myself, “Is this choice going to better me or better my health?” Most of the time the answer is no! Now I am human and I slip up from time to time. Everything is okay in moderation, meaning having one bad thing (not meal) every week or once every two weeks is pretty dang good. But for the majority of your time healthy choices just become habitual!  I also talk to myself during my workouts to help me push through. Again the key to true success is a mindset shift! Once you are fully committed to improving your well being mentally you will start to physically see a change in the way you feel, look, act, and more!

I took a picture with my girls in my spin class that I teach in the mornings! They weren’t too excited when I asked them to take a selfie after we had gotten all sweaty lol. But I wanted to show and brag on these women that are making those steps and those choices to better themselves! It is by no means easy to wake up at 5 am to come up to the gym and do the hardest cardio workout known to man (spin is no joke people)! Spin is obviously physical but a HUGE part of it is mental! Getting through the intervals, the hills can only be done if you are mentally strong enough to conquer the ride ahead! I want you all to take this mental strength in to everyday! Do not let your insecurities (aka the devil) tell you your not strong enough, your not good enough, your too tired to do that! Listen to that desire that we all have to want to be healthy and happy! That voice is God!
